The Amalfi Coast just got served

I had a late morning, waking up at around 11am and packing up by 12pm. I then hopped on the commuter rail towards Napoli Centrale, where you can easily walk 2 minutes to switch over to the Circumvesuviana, an independently run train service that goes around the famous volcano of Mount Vesuvius (of Pompei fame) from Naples to Sorrento for 4 euros.

The whole ride from Naples to Sorrento takes about an hour.

Once stopping at Sorrento, the SITA bus stop that takes you to the cities of the Amalfi Coast (Positano, Amalfi, etc.) for about 4-6 euros (depending on how many trips you want to take in a 24-72 hour period), is right in front of the exit, across the street.

If you have time before your bus leaves, you can have your luggage stored at a parking lot a few feet away for about 1 euro and then go explore the town of Sorrento:

Sibling love

I boarded the SITA bus heading to Positano at 3:30pm and enjoyed the view of Amalfi Coast for the next hour (as long as you make sure you sit on the RIGHT side!).

I arrived into Positano about 50 minutes later, from where I searched for my hostel.

There’s only ONE hostel in Positano, and therefore it’s your only budget option here. Luckily it was only a few steps down from where our SITA bus dropped me off:

After settling in I descended down countless stairwells to Positano’s rocky, secluded Fornillo beach, where I kicked back at Da Ferdinando Bar for the next few hours, taking in the atmosphere:

Around sunset I headed back up to the hostel, enjoying the views of the hillside city after dark.

The next morning I enjoyed a perfect lunch at Villa Gabrissa:

Then headed into downtown Positano for some sightseeing and shopping:

At the bottom is Positano’s more touristy beach: The Spiaggia Grande. There you’ll find the only “sight” in Positano, the Collegiata di Santa Maria Assunta, which in turn is the location of the famous 13th century Byzantine icon, the Madonna di Positano:

If you have time, head into La Sirenuse Hotel for this quintessential view of the Amalfi Coast that you see on almost every popular computer desktop wallpaper:
